Care & Maintenance Guide

At Pixel Flooring, we want you to enjoy your new floor for many years. The guidance below reflects what is generally practised within the UK flooring industry and is designed to support everyday care across laminate, SPC/vinyl, engineered wood, and FSC-certified engineered wood flooring.

Please note: These recommendations are for routine household care only. Always follow any product-specific instructions provided with your flooring, and where required, seek advice from a qualified installer.

1.Laminate Flooring – Care & Maintenance

Laminate flooring is durable and low-maintenance, making it ideal for busy homes. Routine care can help preserve its appearance.

Regular Cleaning

  • • Sweep or vacuum regularly to remove dust and grit
  • • Use a soft-brush vacuum head to avoid marking
  • • Avoid beater-bar brushes that can dull the finish

Mopping

  • • Clean with a slightly damp microfiber mop
  • • Do not use overly wet mops—excess moisture may affect joints
  • • Use laminate-friendly, pH-neutral cleaners where needed

Spill Management

  • • Wipe spills immediately to prevent moisture sitting
  • • Use laminate-safe cleaner and soft cloth for sticky marks

Protection

  • • Apply felt pads under furniture feet
  • • Use doormats at entrances to reduce grit and moisture
  • • Lift furniture instead of dragging to avoid scratching

❌ Avoid

Steam mops, abrasive pads, waxes, polishes, harsh detergents, standing water, or wet mopping

2.SPC & Vinyl Flooring – Care & Maintenance

SPC (Stone Polymer Composite) and vinyl floors are known for their durability and water resistance. Gentle, routine care helps maintain their finish.

Regular Cleaning

  • • Sweep or vacuum frequently to remove loose dirt
  • • Use a soft-brush attachment to protect the wear layer

Mopping

  • • Mop with a pH-neutral vinyl floor cleaner
  • • Warm water with mild detergent for general cleaning
  • • Avoid excessive water to keep trims and adhesive stable

Spot Cleaning

  • • Most spills clean easily with a soft cloth
  • • For tougher marks, use isopropyl alcohol gently

Protection

  • • Use felt pads under heavy furniture
  • • Choose non-rubber-backed mats to prevent discolouration
  • • Use entry mats to reduce moisture and grit

❌ Avoid

Abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, harsh solvents, high-alkaline products, or dragging appliances/furniture

3.Engineered Wood Flooring – Care & Maintenance

Engineered wood flooring contains a real hardwood surface. Consistent, gentle care helps maintain its natural beauty.

Regular Cleaning

  • • Sweep or vacuum with soft-brush attachment
  • • Remove dust and grit regularly
  • • Avoid tools that may scratch the surface

Mopping

  • • Clean with lightly damp microfiber mop
  • • Use wood-specific cleaners
  • • Avoid excessive moisture or soaking

Humidity & Environment

  • • Engineered wood responds to humidity changes
  • • Maintain 45–55% indoor relative humidity
  • • Some seasonal expansion/contraction is normal

Protection

  • • Use felt furniture pads
  • • Use mats at entrances (avoid rubber-backed)
  • • Trim pet nails to prevent scratches

Finish Care

For Oiled Floors:

May benefit from periodic re-oiling with appropriate maintenance oil

For Lacquered Floors:

Routine cleaning is usually sufficient. Refinishing may be required over time.

❌ Avoid

Steam mops, abrasive cleaners, harsh chemicals, wet mopping, or prolonged moisture exposure

4.FSC-Certified Engineered Wood – Care & Maintenance

FSC-certified engineered wood flooring is cared for in the same way as standard engineered wood, with the added reassurance of responsible timber sourcing.

Regular Cleaning

  • • Sweep or vacuum frequently to remove dust
  • • Clean using lightly damp mop and wood-safe cleaner

Environmental Stability

  • • Humidity changes may cause slight movement
  • • Maintain stable indoor conditions to minimise this

Finish Maintenance

  • • Oiled finishes need occasional refreshing
  • • Lacquered finishes need routine cleaning and eventual refinishing

Protection

  • • Use felt pads under furniture
  • • Avoid rubber or latex-backed mats
  • • Use entrance mats to reduce moisture and dirt

❌ Avoid

Steam, standing water, harsh detergents, abrasive pads, excessive moisture, or aggressive cleaning methods
